Sustaining your Energy in Spring

April is such a lovely time of year. The flowers are re-awakening, the sun is staying up longer, and life is coming back to normal. With the awakening of spring there can also be a contradictory feeling of sluggishness in the air. It’s warmer and wetter outside which can make us feel like we’d like to just lay around instead of run, jump, and play! When you’re feeling extra tired, but life demands so much more from you, it’s hard to keep the anxious feelings in check. Here are three ways to help keep the overwhelm at bay in spring.

Prioritize your sleep. You already know this, but it’s hard to do it! But with that being said, your body still needs to rest. Your brain needs to wash itself clean each night. Being fully rested at night, helps keep you in a better mood the next day. Life isn’t so daunting when you’re well-rested. If you’re struggling to get a full night’s sleep, check out my free yoga nidra, attached below. This is a yogic sleep meditation which will help your body feel recharged when you’re running on empty. The yogis say 20 minutes of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to 4 hours of sleep.

Prioritize your health. This means exercising and eating right. Keeping your body moving will give you more energy. Eating healthy things and staying away from processed foods will make you feel less weighted down which equates to more energy.

Set boundaries for yourself. You simply can’t do everything. Choose to focus on what brings you joy. If you’re in a job that doesn’t bring you joy, accept that and when outside of those working hours really be strict about spending time with people who uplift you and make you feel seen. Say no to people who are demanding too much from you, and if you need help, ask for it.
