Sick Season Remedy

Fall is upon us, and the effects of the changing season are already being felt by my family. Stuffy noses, sore throats, and the overall run down feeling. One of my most favorite go to drinks during this season is ginger, cinnamon and honey tea. This tea has great immune boosting properties and tastes great too. Fresh ginger is known for its ability to fight off infections. It’s suiting that ginger comes into season in the fall. Cinnamon, high in antioxidants, is known for boosting the immune system and reducing the effects of allergies due to its ability to reduce inflammation. I add honey because it’s a great cough suppressor and feels good on a sore throat. Make sure to buy local raw honey. The stuff in the little bear bottle sold at the grocery store has been processed and has additives which cut down on its natural beneficial properties. Here’s my personal recipe. I cut about an inch of ginger and take off the skin.

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 teaspoon of honey.

1 cup of boiling water.

Any of these measurements can be altered for your personal tastes.

Allow to steep for about 5-10 minutes. Stir the mixture together, the cinnamon will settle. Contrary to over the counter medicine, there’s no limit to how many cups of these you can enjoy. So cuddle up and feel better!
Till next time,

Melissa
